Asan Barrage Dehradun is located on the confluence of the South Yamuna Canal and Asan River near Uttarakhand-Himachal Pradesh border. The Assan Barrage is a Bird Sanctuary and the first conservation reserve which was established in 2005. However, the barrage was built in 1967. The area of this place is not very big, but enough to attract bird lovers. Apart from Siberian birds, many other bird species are also seen here, this place is best for bird experts and naturalists.
It is a famous tourist destination in Dehradun, every year thousands of foreign tourists and bird lovers come here. This place is famous for winter migrated birds. Asan Barrage Dehradun is spread over 4.5 sq km area. The Asan Bird Sanctuary serves as a key depot for the Trans Himalayan Siberian migratory birds. These Siberian birds come here in November and live here until March. Approximately 45 of these species come here, especially for mating.
