Clock Tower is one of the most popular place of Dehradun the capital of Uttarakhand. It is also known as the “Ghanta Ghar” locally. This place is also considered as the city center. Chakrata Road, Paltan Bazar, Indra Market, Tibetan Market etc. are all next to the clock tower Dehradun. The height of Clock Tower Dehradun is 85 meters.
This clock does not work at present, but it is said that years ago when it was made, its bell sound was such that even a person could hear it at the other end of the city. This tower is a symbol of British established style.
Clock Tower Dehradun history
The clock tower has six faces and it has unique hexagonal structure. The clock tower is a sample of the most excellent architecture in Dehradun city. The original name of the clock tower is “Balbir Tower”. This tower was made to celebrate India’s independence. On July 2, 1948, the Governor of Utter Pradesh, Sarojini Naidu laid the foundation of this tower. The construction work of the clock tower was completed in 1953 and then it was inaugurated by Lal Bahadur Shastri.
Clocktower clocks were not working for the last few years, but in March 2018 Dehradun municipality completed the renovation work of the clock tower. The structure of the clock tower was strengthed under this project. This project was completed in two phases within 6 months.

The Clocktower is located in the heart of Dehradun. One can easily reach this place by auto-rickshaw, city bus and Vikram (the blue three-wheeler). This tower is located at a distance of 2 km from the railway station of Dehradun. The nearest Airport is Jolly Grant airport Dehradun, which is 26 km from this place. From Airport and railway station the visitors can hire a cab to reach Clock Tower.
