Ganga Aarti Haridwar Ceremony

Every evening thousands of devotees gather in Har ki Pauri to join the Ganga Aarti. In a common day, about 2000 to 10000 people come here to see Ganga Aarti. And in any festival such as Basant Panchami, Shivratri, the number of people becomes in lakhs.

As the time of Ganga Arti comes near, the number of people in the Ghat continues to grow. Some people come early in the ghat to get a perfect spot. Near the Har Ki Pauri Ghat, there is a temple of Maa Ganga from where the statue of Ganga is brought to the Ghat by the pundits and other Ganga Sabha members. Initially, Pandit strikes the bell to start the aarti and start pronouncing the mantras. The pronunciation of mantras reaches all the devotees present in the ceremony through the loudspeakers.

Prior to starting Ganga Aarti, the Pundit first worshiped the idol of Mother Ganga. According to the Hindu custom the pundit offers milk, yogurt, ghee etc to the idol of Mother Ganga. This offering of milk and ghee is not in high quantity they offer 1 spoons of each thing.

Ganga Aarti is started by the Pandit after a break. A five-minute hymn/aarti is sung by the pundits and the whole crowd during the aarti of Ganga Mata. If you do not know about the aarti then just follow the locals. After the aarti, the devotees take blessing and Prashad of Goddess Ganga.
