About Mussoorie

Mussoorie is located in Dehradun district of Uttarakhand state. Located at a distance of 35 km from Dehradun. It is one of those places where people like to spend their holidays repeatedly. Mussoorie, which is called the Queen of Hills, is an ideal place for people who are disturbed by the noise of metro cities.

This place is an invaluable source of energy, whether it is the cold water of Kempty waterfall or the wonderful view of the Himalayas, all of this makes the tourist enthralled. This place is considered one of India’s oldest hill station. Queen of hills is located in the Shivalik range of Himalayas and is located at an altitude of 2010 meters above sea level.

This place offers a pleasant and picturesque view of the Doon Valley, this view is even more enjoyable during the night. Besides this, the entrance to Gangotri and Yamunotri Dham is also Mussoorie. This is the only place in the whole of India from where the traveler can enjoy the incredible view of winter line.

The reason behind Mussoorie name

Mansur’s plants were found in this place in previous time, due to which it was named Mussoorie.

History of Mussoorie

This beautiful hill station was founded in 1825 by British military officer Captain Yung and Shor the superintendent of Dehradun. A sanatorium was built here in 1827, which has now become a cantonment in Landour of Mussoorie.

By 1901, the population of this place was 6000. People were attracted towards the natural beauty of this place, and till 1902 the population increased to 15,500. Colonel Everest built his house in Mussoorie in 1832, the name of the famous tourist spot George Everest was named after Colonel Everest.

There is no railway line in Mussoorie. However, the nearest railway station from Queen of Hills is Dehradun railway station which is 35 k away.

How to reach Mussoorie by road

Travelers can easily reach Dehradun-Mussoorie by their own vehicle or by Uttarakhand roadways transport.
