Rajaji Tiger Reserve is located in Haridwar district of Uttarakhand state of India. It extends to Haridwar, Dehradun and Pauri Garhwal districts. In 1983, this park was created by merging three wildlife sanctuaries – Chilla, Motichur, and Rajaji. This park is spread over 820 sq km of area.
In 2015, it is changed from Rajaji National Park to Rajaji Tiger reserve. In 2016 there were only 5 tigers and now in 2017, there are 16 tigers in this park. This is the second tiger reserve of Uttarakhand. This park is most famous for elephants.
Animals like Sambhar, Barking Deer, Nilgai, and Wild Boar etc. can be seen here, although they cannot always be seen in one glance. The main attraction of this park is Tiger and Leopard. Hyena, jackal and Bengal fox are also seen in this park. More than 400 species of birds are found in this park. This place is best for a serious bird lover or for one who wants to make a documentary on birds.

History of Rajaji National Park
In 1964, Motichur Wildlife Sanctuary was established in 90 sq km area of Dehradun. Rajaji Park in 1948 and Chilla Wildlife Sanctuary was established in 1977. In 1983, Rajaji National Park was established by merging the shouts, Rajaji and Motichur. In April 2015, Rajaji National Park was converted into Rajaji Tiger Reserve, with which it became the second Tiger Reserve of Uttarakhand. It is named after Shri Rajgopalachari (Rajaji).
Who was Rajgoparchari?
Rajagopalchari was a first and last governor-general of India. He was one of the first Indian recipients who received India’s highest civilian award Bharat Ratna.
